Driving
Safety First
Starting in 2025, a new rule requires all individuals on a carriage to wear a securely fastened hard hat at all times. This applies to drivers, grooms, and passengers, whether exercising, competing, or on a pleasure drive. Additionally, anyone under 18 must wear a back/body protector, and all individuals participating in a marathon must also wear a back/body protector.
Windsor Park Equestrian Club (WPEC) prides itself in being an all inclusive club, running under British Carriagedriving (BC) rules (www.britishcarriagedriving.co.uk).
There are classes for everyone from beginners to international competitors. Members and non-members are welcome to compete in single, pair, tandem or team classes in the picturesque Deer Park within Windsor Great Park.
Most of our events are run over two days, the first day (Saturday) we hold the dressage and cones sections of the event and on the Sunday, we run the Marathon phase. Competitors can choose to enter the phases individually or combined.
The marathon route takes competitors throughout the deer park and into other areas within the Great Park, we are privileged that some areas we can use on the marathon course are private areas not open to the general public, allowing our competitors views of the Great Park not usually accessible.
For non-competitive carriage drivers WPEC offers a pleasure drive on Marathon day (usually on the Sunday), the course follows the same as the marathon without the obstacles. Pleasure drivers drive the course after the marathon has finished. Hard hats must be worn by all persons on a carriage at all times, including on the pleasure drive.
For any two day event, competitors can stay on site in the Deer Park from the Friday and for one day events competitors can stay on the Saturday night. Please note that the parking is within the Deer Park where wild deer herds roam.

First Time at WPEC?
Before you can compete you must have completed the BC assessment. By appointment we can arrange for an assessment to be conducted on the show ground prior to you beginning your competition. Allow at least 30 minutes for the assessment and bear in mind that if you do not pass you will not be allowed to compete that weekend.

As in any sport there are a few “Shooting” offences:
- NEVER EVER DRIVE ON A MOWN GRASS VERGE
- NEVER EVER DRIVE A MOTORISED VEHICLE ON THE SAND TRACK
- DO NOT DRIVE VEHICLES UP TO THE OBSTACLES
- BBQS ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED
- DO NOT LET YOUR DOG OFF THE LEAD
- NEVER EVER LET A DOG LOOSE OUT IN THE PARK WHERE YOU THINK NO-ONE WILL SEE – WE WILL!
- NEVER EVER TAKE THE BRIDLE OFF WHILE THE HORSE IS PUT TO!
- BICYCLES & ATVs ARE NOT PERMITTED WITHIN THE DEER PARK
- And finally, drive safely and have fun!
