PETER BRIDSON 1952 – 2022

Posted: 22 April 2022

It is with deep sadness we have to report the passing of our Chairman Peter Bridson. Peter was our Chairman for the past 15 years, and had before that been the Driving Organiser.

“He and I have been involved with WPEC for many years. He ran the carriage driving at Smiths Lawn and then became Chairman. He was devoted to the Club and will be much missed’.  Vice President Sally Merrick

Deputy Chairman Sarah Louise Oxborrow echoed Sally’s comments “Peter was the anchor to WPEC, he was committed to ensuring the club was a success and making it a friendly atmosphere for all that competed there. . He was instrumental in moving us to the Deer Park following the changes made on Smiths Lawn. Under his mentorship and guidance he made me Deputy Chairman and showed me the ropes of running the club.”

Away from WPEC he acted as Company Secretary for British Carriagedriving and chaired the Safety Committee at BC for a number of years. He was also a national Technical Delegate where he officiated at events across the UK.

In his professional life, Peter was a managing partner and head of dispute resolution with the London firm DWFM Beckman where he acted for claimants and defendants both in the UK and overseas. He retired from practice in June 2021.

Peter will be greatly missed by all who knew him and our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this time

His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh

Posted: 9 April 2021

10 June 1921 – 9 April 2021

It is with deep sadness we have learnt of the passing of our President and founder, His Royal Highness, The Prince Philip Duke of Edinburgh on 9 April aged 99.

50 years ago at the behest of Prince Philip,  Windsor Park Equestrian Club was founded as a showjumping, dressage and carriage driving club. We spent many years competing on Smiths Lawn opposite Guards Polo Club, where he competed for many years.

Following his retirement from polo His Royal Highness took up carriage driving, and competed in many events, including European and World Championships. He was instrumental in creating the rules for the sport of driving trials in the late 1960s.

As our President, The Duke of Edinburgh both competed and judged at our club over the years, he was often seen at our events, even after he had retired from competitions watching and supporting our competitors and the Club, he also supported our move from Smiths Lawn to the Deer Park in 2019.

He will be missed by all who had the pleasure and honour of knowing him over the years.

Our deepest condolences go to Her Majesty and the rest of the Royal Family, his friends and all who knew him.

Equine Influenza Vaccinations

Posted: 22 Jan 2021

Following the outbreak of EI, WPEC will be following BEF recommendations. Therefore all horses/ ponies attending the WPEC club meets MUST be vaccinated against Equine Influenza as per the below guidelines.

“the horse (or pony) has received two injections for primary vaccination against equine influenza given no less than 21 days and no more than 92 days apart. Only these two injections need to have been given before a horse/pony can attend. In addition, if sufficient time has elapsed a first booster injection must be given no less than 150 days and no more than 215 days after the second injection of the primary vaccination. Subsequently, booster injections must be given at intervals of not more than one year apart.”

Passports will be checked. In order to make the running of the events smoother if competitors could send a copy of their horse(s) vaccination pages and front cover of the passport with their entries it would be very much appreciated.
